Wealth Management in Aberdeen

Most people already have the pieces: a 401(k), a brokerage account, some insurance, maybe a business. We look after all of it as one picture, check it on a schedule and adjust it as your life changes, so what you built keeps working for your family.

What wealth management means here

Wealth management is ongoing care, not a one-time product. We start with what you already have, figure out what each piece is supposed to do, and then keep watch over it year after year. Investments, retirement accounts, insurance, tax timing and what you plan to leave behind all get looked at together.

It is usually the right fit once your finances have more than a couple of moving parts. Think of a couple near retirement with accounts at three different firms, or a business owner whose personal money and company money are tangled up. One plan with someone keeping an eye on it tends to beat a dozen accounts nobody has opened in years.

If you only need a single question answered, our financial advising or financial planning pages may suit you better. Wealth management is for people who want the upkeep handled.

What the work includes

A full inventory
We list every account, policy and plan you hold, where it sits and who is named on it. Many clients find an old 401(k) or a forgotten policy in this step.
Portfolio oversight
We review how your money is invested and whether the mix still matches your goals and timeline. Changes are made for a reason we can explain, not just to look busy.
Tax-aware decisions
Which account to draw from, when to sell and how to handle required distributions all affect what you keep. We work that into the plan and coordinate with your tax preparer.
Insurance and risk check
We look at life coverage and other protection to see whether it still fits your family. Gaps and overlaps both get flagged.
Beneficiary and legacy review
Outdated beneficiary forms are one of the most common problems we see. We check them against your wishes and work alongside your estate attorney when documents need updating.
Scheduled reviews
We sit down with you on a regular schedule, at our office or by phone and video. Between meetings, big life events like a sale, a death or a new grandchild are a reason to talk sooner.

Signs it's time for ongoing management

  • Accounts in too many places

If you can't say what you own without logging into five websites, things are probably drifting. Scattered accounts are hard to keep balanced.

  • Nobody has looked in years

A portfolio set up ten years ago was built for a different version of you. Without upkeep, the risk level can creep far from where you meant it to be.

  • A big change just happened

An inheritance, a business sale, a divorce or a spouse passing away changes almost every number. That is a good time to have someone review the whole picture.

  • Retirement is close

The years just before and after you stop working carry the most decisions. Timing mistakes here are expensive and hard to undo.

  • Beneficiaries you aren't sure about

If you can't remember who is named on your accounts, check. Those forms usually override a will.

What the price depends on

Wealth management has no one price, since every client brings a different set of pieces. At the introductory meeting, before you agree to anything, we explain how we are paid and what that covers. These are the usual things that change the cost.

How much we look after

The amount in our care usually has the largest effect on ongoing fees.

How many pieces there are

Multiple accounts, trusts, a rental or a business each add time to every review.

Owning a business

Owners often need their personal and company money planned together, including retirement plans and who takes over later.

How much needs sorting out

Bringing old accounts together and correcting outdated beneficiaries takes more time early on than routine upkeep does later.

How we work with you

  1. 1

    Introductory meeting

We talk about where you are, what you want and what worries you. You'll leave knowing whether we're a good fit and how we're paid.

  2. 2

    Gather and map

You bring statements, policies and any plans you already have. We lay it all out on one page so you can see it too.

  3. 3

    Plain recommendations

We tell you what is working, what isn't and what we'd change first. Some things are fine as they are, and we'll say so.

  4. 4

    Ongoing upkeep

We put the plan in motion and then review it on a set schedule. Each review checks performance, costs, beneficiaries and whether your goals have shifted.

Questions about wealth management

Is there an amount I need before working with you?

We would only be guessing on a call without seeing your situation. At the introductory meeting, tell us what you own and what you want it to do. If ongoing management does not fit, we will tell you and suggest something simpler.

Must every account move over to you?

No. Some, such as a 401(k) at your current job, usually stay put. We still include them in your plan and advise you on them.

How often do we meet?

We agree on a review schedule when we begin, and many clients meet once or twice a year. If something changes in between, give us a call. We meet at our office or by phone and video.

How is this different from investment management?

Investment management looks after the portfolio alone. Wealth management adds taxes, insurance, retirement income and legacy planning to it. If the investments are all you want handled, our investment management page covers that.

Are you going to push new products on me?

We start by reviewing what you own now. Often the best step is to keep an account or policy and change how it is set up. If something new is worth it, we explain why in plain words and the choice is yours.
